Double-deep system is a variation of single-deep, using standard selective racking components to store products two-pallet-deep (or four deep in a double entry rack).  Allowing for two to four pallets deep storage space while eliminating an aisle between two storage racks. This increased pallet storage density brings both the increased storage efficiency and reduced pallet accessibility compared to selective pallet racks.

For double-deep racking system, the front pallet position must be empty in order to reach the rear pallet load. Usually, two times handling is necessary unless pallets are stored on a fast-in/first-out basis. To make full use of this storage system, some special deep- reach lift trucks are required to handle loads with high volumes and single-SKU.
